Following on from the successful July 2012 mass concert, Songs from the Movies at the Harrogate International Centre, we wanted to recreate some of the songs into a concert supporting Parkinson’s UK in October 2012. It was also an excuse to invite back veteran actor John Middleton who played Ashley Thomas in the popular soap Emmerdale for 20 years.

John had kindly stepped in to provide a voice-over for the Michael Jackson song Thriller, which he performed with true showmanship, and a fantastic characterful booming voice. Also performing were the KidzRU choir with ages just 7-12 years (now replaced by the Youth choir).

The evening also paid tribute to the iconic sports legend and Parkinson’s sufferer, Mohammad Ali, with the attendance of Richard Dunn in the audience, famously remembered for being one of Ali’s opponents. The event was a huge success with not only the audience on their feet for the finale Time Warp from the Rocky Horror Show, but £5000 was raised for Parkinson’s UK.

Rock Up and Sing! will remain grateful to John Middleton for agreeing to perform with us not once but twice!
