Tuesday

Formed in November 2010, the Tuesday choir currently has around 90 members

After 10 extremely busy and successful years Rock Up will be ending with a Finale Concert in June 2019, so unfortunately we are no longer accepting new members!

Name: Dawn Kilvington

Age: 49

Which choir are you in? Tuesday and Thursday

When did you join? About 8 years ago

What prompted you to join? – I’ve always loved singing and needed friends outside of health problems and work! Something of my own and a new way to chill and clear my head

Did you have any choir experience – Only church and school as a child

What do you remember about your first rehearsal – Feeling afraid! It was very out of character for me to join something alone but as soon as I walked through the door it was like going home. There were lots of old friends I hadn’t seen in years who were already members!

And what about your first concert/event? I felt like my legs had gone to jelly and worried I would forget my parts, but I didn’t. I totally loved it and I’ve never looked back!

What’s your favourite thing about being in Rock Up? The new friends I now call family who are there through thick and thin. The social side, the new experiences, but most of all the health benefit the singing gives me. You can just lose yourself for 2 hours every week!

What would you say to anyone thinking about joining this choir? Go for it, you will not be judged, you will love every second and never look back!

Name: Jo Cope

Age: 50 (in body only but 21 in my head)

Which choir are you in? Tuesday

When did you join? 2010

What prompted you to join? I always wanted to join a choir that sang the music I loved, and then a neighbour told me about Rock Up and asked me to go with her

Did you have any choir experience? Not since school

What do you remember about your first rehearsal? Everyone made me feel really welcome and shared their own experiences of their first night at choir. You soon feel one of the gang

And what about your first concert/event? The first concert I sang in was in Knaresborough Market Square the Easter after I joined. There were about 30 Tuesday Girls. It was great fun and an amazing memory, but a million miles from recent productions

What’s your favourite thing about being in Rock Up? Being part of a 400 strong family. I love the community we’ve built and my Rock Up friendships are such a big part of my life. I can’t remember what life was like pre Rock Up. Can I have a second favourite? The experiences we have performing with a live rock band, at home and abroad, are amazing. The ‘Rock Chic’ dreams of my youth brought to life. What a buzz!

What would you say to anyone thinking about joining this choir? You’ll never regret it. You’ll be dazed and confused for the first month (we’ve all been there) but before you know it you’ll be harmonising to Freddie Mercury and Bono and having a great time with your new mates!

And what about your first concert/event? It was the Summer Concert, I felt really proud to be part of something so positive with such a wonderful sound

What’s your favourite thing about being in Rock Up? It’s my weekly therapy, no matter how I feel leading up to Tuesday I’m on cloud nine after

What would you say to anyone thinking about joining this choir? Stop thinking and just do it!
