When Rock Up and Sing! last performed at Leeds Town Hall in December 2015 we vowed to return to this stunning venue, and in July 2017 it became a reality when we performed two very rocky concerts in support of Leeds based St Gemma’s Hospice.

With over 300 choir members on stage, Queen’s ‘One Vision’ set the scene for a lively repertoire of songs by David Bowie, Metallica, Nirvana, Guns N’ Roses and U2, along with a stunning rendition of Rise Like a Phoenix; the winning 2014 Eurovision song by Conchita Wurst.

Our fabulous live band were accompanied by the talented 16 year old Megan Humphries on harp who, with other pieces, had the audience spellbound with a beautiful rendition of Led Zepellin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’.

Along with raising a fantastic £1,500 for St Gemma’s Hospice, the overall concensus from the weekend was that the concerts were the best Rock Up had ever performed – both in terms of sound and professionalism. For a family of community choirs this is quite an achievement and shows just how much work and dedication had been made by Rhiannon, Rock Up’s Musical Director, and every single choir member. Once again, another hugely enjoyable and memorable highlight for Rock Up and Sing!
