From ‘Hollywood to Harrogate’ was a brilliant catchphrase for the mass concert in July 2012, ‘Songs from the Movies’!

Members from across the Rock Up and Sing! choirs joined together on stage at the Harrogate International Centre for two concerts, in support of Martin House Children’s Hospice, to help children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

With the aid of a huge screen behind the choirs, Rock Up brought the excitement of the ‘big screen’ movies to the audience, and songs from The Rocky Horror Show, Mamma Mia, Chicago, Avatar and the Lion King, amongst others, sprang to life with film clips, images, photographs and atmospheric lighting.

We were also blessed to be joined on stage by actor John Middleton (Emmerdale star who played Vicar Ashley Thomas), providing the voice-over for the Michael Jackson song Thriller. This had been made into a short film by Michael Jackson and had been hailed as the most important music video of all time. John brought the song to life and managed to scare a few of the KidzRU choir in the process!

A brilliant show and the choirs certainly gave an Oscar winning performance.
