Rock Up and Sing! are no strangers to Tour de France related events. In early 2013 the newly formed Youth choir gave a rousing performance at Leeds Town Hall Inaugral Dinner as the city officially welcomed the news of the Yorkshire Grand Départ. So it was a wonderful privilege to be invited back to perform at the Tour de France Gala Dinner on 5th July 2014 at the Royal Hall, Harrogate, after the end of opening day of the Tour de France.

This time around 200 members from the adult choirs and the Youth choir sang in front of a star studded audience made up of cycling legends, leading figures from the Tour de France organising body ASO (including the General Director Christian Prudhomme), and VIP’s from the around the UK, (including Sir Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire).

The performance started with the Youth choir on stage, but then, to the delight of the diners, the rest of the choir members appeared around the hall’s perimeters whilst singing the aptly fitting song ‘Proud’ by Heather Small. The evening ended with a flag waving rendition of the French National Anthem, La Marseillaise, whilst yellow ticker tape rained down.

The opportunity of performing at such a prestigious event was hugely exciting for everyone involved, and one we will all remember for a long time to come!
